Before you fly and while you explore: practical answers for travelling alone, with friends or with family. Start with your next step, then turn places into your own plan.
Before you fly
- Check entry requirements for the passport you will use.
- Save your Korean accommodation address and arrival route offline.
- Prepare mobile data, payment and a separate transit balance.
Already in Korea?
- Check your exact branch, entrance and last connection.
- Save one main place and a nearby backup.
- Keep your accommodation address and emergency contacts handy.
Check advice for your guide edition · English
Passport rules depend on your actual passport, not the language you choose. Expand for regional payment, power and travel reminders.
Prepare for your own passport, phone and arrival route
USD / KRWThis English edition is for travellers from different countries. Your language does not determine entry eligibility. Check the passport you will use, compare your home time with Korea, and distinguish booking currencies from local KRW prices.
Entry documents
Use the official navigator for your passport, travel purpose and route. Visa requirements, K-ETA and arrival declarations are separate checks; temporary exemptions have their own conditions.
Power and connectivity
Korea uses 220V, 60Hz and round two-pin sockets. Check your device's input-voltage label and plug. For an eSIM, verify the exact phone model, sales region and carrier lock.
Payment and local time
Compare bookings in the currency shown, including USD where offered. Local menus and transport prices use KRW. Use Korean local dates and times for transport and reservations.

- Find a place
Use Food, Stay, Explore, Hangang or Facilities on our Map. Search within the selected category and compare the Korean name and exact branch.
- Save what suits you
Use a place card’s Save button, then open Trip plan to organise saved places by day. Keep a nearby backup rather than filling every hour.
- Check the real journey
Map lines show an itinerary or a published walking route, not guaranteed live navigation. Check entrances, current transport and weather before setting off.
For video courses, a stop with an unconfirmed location stays on its card without an invented pin. A dotted connection can skip those stops; it is not a verified walking route.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers for preparation and the moments when you need to decide on the spot. Open the full guide for steps and Korean phrases.
Is this guide only for solo travellers?
No. Preparation, transport, accommodation and sightseeing advice is for travellers on their own, with friends or with family. Solo-specific dining advice is clearly labelled.
Check the real number and ages of guests when booking a room, ticket or activity. A solo-dining recommendation does not mean every menu is available to one person.
Read the full guideDo I need a visa, K-ETA and an e-Arrival Card?
They are different procedures. Check your passport nationality and type, travel purpose and visa, K-ETA or residence-card status in the official navigator. Website language does not determine eligibility.
A K-ETA exemption is not automatically an arrival-declaration exemption. Use the official guidance for your status instead of relying on another traveller’s paperwork.
Read the full guideDoes the official e-Arrival Card cost money?
No. Submission through the official service is free. Prepare your passport, email address, arrival flight and date, and accommodation details. Check the submission window on the official site.
Keep the confirmation and correct changed details before immigration. Completing an arrival declaration does not grant a visa or replace K-ETA where required.

Will an eSIM work on my phone?
Check the exact model, country of sale, carrier lock and the product’s supported-device list, not just the phone’s marketing name. An unlocked, eSIM-capable phone can still face product-specific restrictions.
For an iPhone, check Carrier Lock in Settings and look for No SIM Restrictions. If unsure, ask the provider before buying and keep a physical SIM or pocket Wi-Fi as an alternative.

Should I delete an eSIM if setup fails?
Do not delete it as a first troubleshooting step. Use a stable internet connection, follow your purchased product’s instructions and contact support. LG U+ warns that a deleted installed eSIM cannot be restored or reissued; other products have their own rules.
Installation and validity activation are not necessarily the same moment. Follow the provider’s timing and roaming instructions, and check charges on your original line separately.

Does a Korean phone number let me use every verification service?
No. Data-only, incoming calls and SMS, outgoing calls, and Korean identity verification are separate features. A tourist number does not guarantee identity checks for banks, government services or every booking app.
Check the actual waiting-list, reservation or delivery service you need before choosing a plan. Ask the venue about a foreign-visitor alternative if you cannot complete verification.

Can I tap my overseas credit card at subway and bus gates?
Do not assume an ordinary overseas payment card is a transport card. Prepare a supported transit card and balance, or buy the ticket required for that service. Paying for a ticket by card and tapping that card at a gate are different.
For ordinary physical Tmoney top-ups, having Korean-won cash is a useful backup. Card acceptance depends on the product, machine and location; ticket-sales card acceptance does not guarantee top-up acceptance.

Why does transit show a low balance after I topped up WOWPASS?
The WOWPASS shopping balance and the Tmoney transport balance are separate, even on the same card. Topping up shopping funds does not automatically prepare the transit balance.
Check the Tmoney balance and that its top-up succeeded before boarding. Use the operator’s current instructions for the top-up method available to you.

An English place search fails. How do I find the correct branch?
Use the Korean place name and street address, then compare the branch name, building entrance and nearby station. Similar translated names can point to different branches.
Use our Map for choosing places, then check a current local map route for the final walk, entrance and transport. Save the accommodation address offline so you can show it to staff.
Read the full guideAre AREX Express and All Stop the same train?
No. Express connects Seoul Station and the Incheon Airport terminals with its own ticket. For intermediate stops such as Hongik University or Gimpo Airport, check the All Stop service.
At Seoul Station, follow the signs for the service on your ticket; Express and All Stop have different platform areas. Check the direction and airport terminal as well as the AREX name.

Does ‘minimum two portions’ mean two people must come?
Not necessarily. ‘최소 2인분’ describes portions; ‘2명 이상’ describes guest numbers. Ask separately whether one diner can enter and order two portions. Paying for two portions does not guarantee admission.
For allergies or dietary restrictions, ask about broth, sauces and ingredients, not only the translated dish name. A category such as noodles or rice bowls is not a dietary guarantee.
Read the full guideCan I use a taxi app without a Korean phone number?
Some visitor-focused services support overseas users. k.ride describes email or social-account registration and overseas-card payment, but app-specific verification and payment conditions still apply. Finish setup before you need a car.
Follow the app’s current payment registration instructions; do not assume pay-the-driver is available. Check the vehicle number, pickup point and Korean destination address before boarding.

What if I cannot register for food delivery or a restaurant waitlist?
Check whether the service requires a Korean number, SMS reception, identity verification or a supported payment card. These requirements are not interchangeable, and a travel eSIM does not guarantee all of them.
Ask about ordering in person, takeaway or a foreign-visitor booking route. For delivery to accommodation, confirm its rules and pickup location with the property first.
Read the full guideWhere can I leave bags before check-in or after checkout?
Ask your property first. Otherwise distinguish station lockers from staffed luggage-storage services. Check bag size, current availability, fees and the last collection time.
Not every facility is open 24 hours. Keep your locker number and collection instructions privately, and allow time to collect bags before the airport or train.

When should I use 112, 119 or 1330?
Use 112 for police emergencies and 119 for fire, rescue or an ambulance. In immediate danger, contact the emergency service rather than waiting for a tourism response.
1330 is a non-emergency tourism-information and interpretation-help channel, not a replacement for emergency services. For lost property, keep ride or visit records and check the operator and police LOST112.
Read the full guideIs tax refund automatic whenever I shop?
No. A duty-free purchase and a tax-refund purchase are different. Check your eligibility, whether the shop participates, and whether the procedure is immediate in-store or completed later.
Keep the required receipts and passport information. Before packing or checking luggage, follow the refund operator’s current instructions for goods inspection, airport steps, limits and payment. Do not treat a displayed discount as a guaranteed refund.
Read the full guideIs a line on our map turn-by-turn walking navigation?
No. A published walking trail shows its recorded route; a video-course connection shows the order of stops. Neither confirms current closures, step-free access, lighting or safe crossings.
Choose a manageable section and check weather, daylight, entrances and return transport. Unconfirmed video stops remain on cards without invented coordinates, so a dotted link may skip their positions.

Open the place card, use Save, then open Trip plan and arrange saved places by day. Check travel time between them using current transport directions instead of treating a straight map connection as travel time.
The 1-Second Trip Planner offers video-course ideas you can adapt. Check exact branches, opening notices and booking conditions for your own visit date; a creator’s trip is not a promise of today’s availability.
