01
First identify your part of Seoul Station
Seoul Station is a group of connected railway facilities. A KTX ticket, an AREX Express ticket and a subway transport card do not mean the same entrance or gate. Decide which service you need before following a crowd.
Use the service name and floor together. Colours help, but read the words Express or All Stop as well. The diagram below describes the AREX side and the main KTX concourse; it does not put all subway facilities on one floor.
| Words on a sign | What they mean |
|---|---|
| 타는 곳 / Tracks / Platforms | The departure platform, not your carriage or seat. |
| 갈아타는 곳 / Transfer | A connection to another railway line. |
| 나가는 곳 / Exit | A way out; check before leaving a paid transfer area. |
| 직통열차 / Express Train | The reserved-seat airport service with a separate ticket. |
| 일반열차 / All Stop Train | The airport railway service that also serves intermediate stations. |
Our own connection diagram, based on AREX official guidance. Not to scale; it is not a walking map. On B7, Express and All Stop have separate platform areas.

From AREX Express
- Leave the B7 Express platform following the arrival / exit signs for the Express concourse on B2. Use the lift or the route indicated on site.
- At the Express exit gate, use the QR ticket for the journey you have just made. Keep the ticket accessible until you are through.
- Outside the gate, follow KTX / Trains signs towards the main concourse on 2F. Do not enter the All Stop gates simply because they also say AREX.
- At the KTX departure board, match the departure time and train number on your issued ticket. Then check the displayed platform before going down.
From AREX All Stop
- From the B7 platform, follow the exit / concourse signs up to the All Stop concourse on B3.
- For KTX, follow the KTX / Trains exit route. Finish the AREX journey at the exit gate with the same transport card or single-journey ticket used to enter.
- Continue by the KTX signs to the main concourse on 2F, then find your train on the departure board. The underground Subway 1 / 4 transfer passage is a different destination.
A KTX carriage number such as 6 does not mean platform 6. Once at the correct platform, check the train number again, then find your carriage and reserved seat. Keep the issued ticket available for inspection.
03
Arriving by KTX and continuing by AREX
- From your arriving train, follow the concourse signs to the main KTX hall on 2F. Check that your next airport is Incheon (ICN) or Gimpo (GMP).
- In the hall, follow Airport Railroad / AREX signs. Choose Express or All Stop before entering a ticket gate.
- For Express, go to B2, obtain or open the valid Express QR ticket, pass the Express gate and follow the boarding signs to B7.
- For All Stop, follow All Stop / 일반열차 signs to its B3 concourse, prepare a valid transport card or single-journey ticket, pass its gate and follow the signs to the All Stop platform on B7.
- Read the platform departure display. If travelling to Incheon Airport, check the destination and terminal rather than boarding solely because the train is on the airport line.
Gimpo Airport and Hongik University are All Stop destinations. The Express service does not serve them. If you reach the B2 airline check-in counters while looking for All Stop, follow the All Stop signs to B3 rather than buying an Express ticket by mistake.
04
AREX and Subway Lines 1 / 4: keep the right connection
All Stop → Subway
- From the B7 All Stop platform, follow Transfer / Subway Line 1 / Line 4 signs towards B3.
- Follow the underground transfer connection. If a transfer gate requires a tap, use the same transport card or ticket; this is not a reason to change cards.
- Continue through the passage until the signs split for Line 1 and Line 4. Choose your line, then check the next station and direction on the platform display.
- If your destination is outside the railway rather than another train, follow Exit signs instead. Do not leave and re-enter solely to make an ordinary underground transfer.
Subway → All Stop or Express
- Follow Airport Railroad / AREX transfer signs from Line 1 or 4 through the underground connection, not the street exit just because it says Seoul Station.
- For All Stop, remain on the indicated transfer route to the All Stop area and B7 boarding platform. Keep the same transport card or ticket ready at any transfer gate.
- For Express, follow the Express ticketing route: AREX official guidance takes subway arrivals through the B3 gate area and up to B2. End the subway journey where indicated, then use the separate Express QR gate and descend to B7.
Express → Subway
- Leave the Express platform by the Express arrival route to B2 and scan your Express QR ticket at its exit gate.
- Outside that gate, follow signs for Subway Lines 1 / 4 and the B3 connection. Prepare the transport card or subway ticket for your next journey; an Express QR ticket alone is not a subway ticket.
- At a confusing junction, show staff your destination station before passing another gate. Do not assume that the Express QR code and a transport-card transfer work identically.
05
Subway and KTX: use a route you can recognise
Subway → KTX main concourse
- Follow KTX / Trains / Seoul Station signs from the subway. The concourse route via the Exit 1 side is a useful reference when you want the main railway hall.
- Finish the subway journey at the exit gate using the same card or ticket, then follow the station signs up to the 2F KTX concourse.
- Match your issued ticket's date, departure time and train number to the board. Follow the currently displayed platform, then carriage and seat signs.
KTX → Subway
- From the KTX concourse, follow Subway 1 / 4 signs towards the subway area. A railway platform number is not a subway exit number.
- Enter the subway using a valid transport card or subway ticket. Choose Line 1 or Line 4 and check the next station in the direction you need.
- Station-specific shortcut passages may exist, but they are not a promise of direct access to every KTX platform. If you cannot identify the shortcut, return to the signed main-concourse route or ask staff.
Check the departure station written on your ticket before travelling here. Seoul, Yongsan, Cheongnyangni and other Seoul-area stations are different boarding places; a destination city alone does not identify your departure station.
06
Leaving for the airport: choose the service before the gate
| AREX Express | AREX All Stop | |
|---|---|---|
| Useful for | Seoul Station ↔ Incheon Airport T1 / T2 | Intermediate stations including Hongik University and Gimpo Airport, and Incheon Airport |
| At Seoul Station | Ticketing / QR gate on B2; platform on B7 | All Stop ticketing / connection on B3; platform on B7 |
| What to prepare | Issued ticket for the selected train, with QR code and seat information | Accepted transport card with enough balance, or single-journey ticket |
| Check before boarding | Date, departure time, train, carriage and seat | Destination of the actual train and your airport terminal |
- Read the airport code and terminal from your airline booking. Incheon T1 and T2 are separate stops; Gimpo is a different airport.
- For an Express booking made through a reseller, read that booking's redemption instructions. A payment receipt or exchange voucher is not automatically the issued AREX QR ticket.
- For All Stop, make sure the balance is on the transport function of your card. Shopping-card balance and transport balance can be separate.
- Check today's board and service notices. Some All Stop trains terminate before the airport; the first departing train is not always the correct one.
- Follow the gate and platform for the service you actually chose. Allow enough time to reach the platform before the departure time on your ticket, including the time needed to find your way.
This guide does not freeze a fare, first train or last train into the walking directions. Check the current operating notice and your departure-day timetable before a flight connection.
07
City Airport Terminal on B2: an optional check-in stop
The City Airport Terminal is for eligible same-day international departures from Incheon Airport and requires an AREX Express ticket. It is not a general airport ticket office or a service for every airline and passenger.
| Official check-in limits checked for this guide | What to plan around |
|---|---|
| Check-in 05:20–19:00; reception closes 18:50 | The airline's flight cutoff can close your service earlier. |
| T1 | Complete check-in at least 3 hours before flight departure. |
| T2 | Complete check-in at least 3 hours 20 minutes before flight departure. |
| Departure immigration 05:30–19:00 | A separate step; confirm that you completed it if using the dedicated departure procedure. |
- Before bringing bags here, confirm your airline, operated flight, airport terminal and baggage are eligible on the current official terminal guide. Special-assistance and oversized-item conditions need separate checking.
- Go to the B2 City Airport Terminal and follow its entry procedure with the Express QR ticket. Have your passport, flight booking and baggage ready.
- Complete airline check-in / baggage drop and, if using the service, the separate departure-immigration procedure. Receiving a train ticket does not complete airline check-in.
- Afterward, board your booked Express train from its B7 platform area. At Incheon Airport, follow the procedure explained by the terminal staff; security screening and reaching the airline boarding gate still take time.
These hours and eligibility conditions can change. Check the current AREX terminal notice, especially for an evening flight, a codeshare or baggage needing special handling.
08
Street exits, taxis, buses and a route with luggage
Before leaving, choose a specific destination or meeting point and its station side. The subway, railway concourse and surrounding roads are not one single exit. A street exit number is not a KTX platform number.
AREX's official Express approach guide distinguishes arrivals from Exits 1–14 through the 2F KTX hall, and arrivals from the Exit 15 side towards B2. Use this as an orientation check, then follow the current sign for your chosen service.
For a taxi, follow Taxi signs to the signed rank, or use the exact pickup point shown by your booking. Send the pickup-side / meeting-point information to the driver rather than only writing Seoul Station.
For a bus, check the stop name or stop ID, direction and route on the current journey plan. There are several stops around the station; the first bus stop you see may be on the wrong side of the road.
The historic Culture Station Seoul 284 building is a cultural venue beside the station, not the KTX main concourse. A photo of the old brick building should not be your only meeting-point instruction.
- With a suitcase, wheelchair or stroller, look for the lift symbol and check the served floors before entering. A lift on one leg does not prove the entire transfer is step-free.
- Ask staff for the complete lift route to the platform or street side you need. Do not carry heavy bags down an escalator just to keep following this guide.
- If using a locker or baggage service, check the exact location, size, availability and collection hours there. No particular locker or empty compartment is guaranteed by this guide.
09
If you are lost, at the wrong gate or running late
| What you see | What to do next |
|---|---|
| Express QR gate, but you want All Stop | Pause before the gate; follow All Stop signs towards B3 or ask staff. |
| All Stop / transport-card gate, but you booked Express | Find the B2 Express ticketing / QR-gate route. Do not assume the card gate leads to your reserved train. |
| City Airport Terminal counters, but you only want a train | Choose Express B2 or All Stop B3; airline check-in is not compulsory for taking AREX. |
| A platform number that differs from your carriage number | This is normal. Match train and platform on the board first; then find your carriage. |
| A gate error or uncertain charge | Use the help point or ask staff before tapping another card or buying again. |
| Not enough time for the connection | Show staff your issued ticket immediately and ask about the available change procedure; do not assume the next train accepts it. |
Before moving again: check your service name, destination, ticket type and next floor. Save the relevant section while you have a connection. The suggested checkpoints are editorial guidance; follow station staff and temporary diversion signs when they differ.
