01

Check the exact model, sales region and carrier lock

Phones in the same product family can differ by sales region. On an iPhone, Settings → General → About shows model and carrier-lock information. For other brands, consult the manufacturer's exact model guidance too. Using another provider's eSIM also requires checking whether the device is carrier-locked.

Some models sold in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macao use different SIM configurations. Do not buy on the assumption that every iPhone supports the same eSIM service. If yours is unsuitable, compare a physical SIM and your existing provider's roaming. A portable Wi-Fi device also needs charging and a backup if lost.

02

Read these five product details

Having a Korean number does not mean you can complete every Korean mobile identity check. Confirm what a restaurant's booking or waiting-list service requires separately.

DetailWhat to look for
ValidityDoes the clock start on installation or on connection to a Korean network?
DataTotal allowance, daily limits, reduced speeds and hotspot rules.
Calls and textsData-only, or a number with calling and SMS features?
Identity checksPassport requirements and which verification services the number can support.
ProblemsInstallation failure, refund conditions and support contact.

03

Separate installation from activation

  1. Check device compatibility, carrier lock and when validity starts before paying.
  2. Read setup instructions on a stable connection and save your order and QR information.
  3. Follow the product's installation and activation timing. Do not assume the plan starts only after landing.
  4. On arrival, choose the line for mobile data. Set data roaming according to that provider's instructions.
  5. Check charges for calls, texts and roaming on your original line. Changing the data line does not remove every possible charge on the other line.
  6. Try a map search and send a message to confirm the connection works.

04

Try your first map search before departure

Enter your accommodation's Korean address in NAVER Map and open a public transport route. Check that you can identify stations, exits and bus stops. If an English name fails, use the Korean name and address, and confirm you have the correct branch.

Save useful Korean sentences and your accommodation address. If a booking service requires Korean phone verification, ask the venue about its foreign-visitor booking option before your visit rather than trying to register at the door.
